ENTRY #5: OCA: A Home-Service Ordering App

My journey to achieving an approved pitch was long and difficult, filled with multiple moments of confusion and doubt. The process demanded perseverance and a lot of hard work, but ultimately, it was an incredibly rewarding experience. I had to pitch two times and discard many ideas in order to come up with this latest pitch.

I was actually one of the initial presenters, which added a layer of pressure and anticipation. The presentation was held in the Audio-Visual Room (AVR), a setting that felt intimidating. Speaking in front of an audience, especially with the goal of sounding professional and convincing, is one of my biggest weaknesses. The mere thought of standing up there, with all eyes on me, was enough to make my heart race and my palms sweat.

Despite my fears, I was determined to get through it and present my idea with the hopes of being approved so that I can start the business plan, the final Learning Evidence of this course. My first pitch was about an innovation in the utility department, a newer technology for water pipeline system. The idea was to create a tracker system for leaks, water pressure, and pipes that need maintenance. This stemmed from the problem of water leaks being difficult to track with the current technology, causing thousands of gallons of clean water being wasted.

This pitch wasn't approved because this product would be very hard to implement, if it was even possible to create the device and craft the technology needed, it would take too many resources to install the tech and system throughout the pipelines in the city.

The following week after the disapproval, I tried many times to come up with ideas that are not too ambitious and is realistic that can be easily implemented when the time comes. This led me to think of Pet health trackers, and solar energy devices, however, these products are already very popular and is existing. I tried to find something to improve about the existing devices but sadly, I couldn't.

It wasn't until I had to think about a mobile application to be used in another course that I came up with the idea that was perfect. It was something SMART, new, and interesting. When I had thought of the idea, I immediately researched about it and found that, even though there are similar apps, there isn't one that is exactly like mine. The idea was an app that acts as an intermediary platform for a wide range of home-service providers.

According to the adviser, it was an interesting and new app. It also had a great business model, good for income because of the commission-type payments. It also allows for business to reach more potential customers, increasing sales. This elevator pitch was then finally approved after many questions and clarifications.
